Senior Accountant

Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Accountant to join our client's Accounting team in Sacramento, California. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who not only excels in month-end close activities and financial reporting but also has direct experience supporting external audits and working closely with auditors throughout the audit process.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and helping improve accounting processes and controls. This position offers significant growth potential, including the opportunity to advance into an Accounting Manager role as the organization continues to evolve.
Candidates with prior supervisory or Accounting Manager experience, ERP implementation experience, and expertise with Sage Intacct or NetSuite are highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Month-End Close
- Lead and support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Analyze financial results and investigate variances.
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger.
- Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and management reporting packages.
- Ensure accounting activities are completed in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
Audit & Compliance
- Coordinate and support annual financial statement audits.
- Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors during audit fieldwork.
- Respond to auditor requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist with implementing audit recommendations and strengthening internal controls.
- Support compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Financial Analysis & Process Improvement
- Perform account analysis and reconcile complex balance sheet accounts.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
- Assist with developing and documenting accounting policies and procedures.
- Participate in special projects related to process improvement and system enhancements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across accounting and finance functions.
Leadership & Development
- Serve as a resource and mentor to junior accounting staff.
- Assist with training and onboarding accounting team members.
- Provide leadership support on key accounting projects and initiatives.
- Contribute to departmental planning and decision-making.
- Prepare for future advancement opportunities into an Accounting Manager role.
ERP Systems & Technology
- Maintain and leverage ERP systems to improve financial reporting accuracy and efficiency.
- Participate in accounting system upgrades, enhancements, and integrations.
- Assist with ERP implementations, data migrations, testing, and process design.
- Utilize technology and automation tools to improve accounting workflows.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong experience supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
- Direct experience preparing for and participating in external audits.
- Experience working directly with auditors and managing audit requests.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as an Accounting Supervisor, Lead Accountant, or Accounting Manager.
- Experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff.
- Hands-on experience with Sage Intacct and/or NetSuite.
- Experience participating in a Sage Intacct or NetSuite implementation, conversion, or optimization project.
- Experience with financial reporting, budgeting support, and process improvement initiatives.
- Background in a growing or multi-entity organization.

Compensation: $85,000 - $95,000 annually, based on experience, education, certifications, and overall qualifications.
